Ylocos Culture
"Ylocos Culture"
As we enter February, we are met by a slew of events in Ilocos Sur, most notably Kannawidan. This celebration features cultural performances, religious rites, and cookery demonstrations presenting the best of Ilocano cuisine. It is a month-long festival that takes place from the final week of January to the first week of February. Kannawidan is usually celebrated in February, and it is very important to the Biguenos and the rest of Ilocos Sur. The Kannawidan Ilocos Event is a festival in Ilocos Sur that commemorates the split of the two Ilocos provinces in 1818. KANNAWIDAN, the Iloco Foundation of Arts and Culture, sprang from a great notion and is now a living reality. Ilocano culture has become one of the province's most anticipated yearly events, contributing to the advancement of Ilocano culture. This concept exemplifies the debate over how to define community as a stable structure with components and a mechanism.
The current
COVID-19 epidemic has affected us all. Nonetheless, it is encouraging to know
that we can still rejoice, whatever the circumstances. We can't enjoy it as
much as we used to because of the virus's high danger of infection and the
strict health regulations that come with it. We have less engagement with one
another because of our limited mobility and social distance, giving us a
different sense throughout the event. Nonetheless, the prospect of doing so
makes us happy. But as the Philippines begins to recover from the impacts of
the COVID-19 outbreak, fiestas and festivals are returning, providing Filipinos
with much-needed levity. The provincial administration of Ilocos Sur formally
inaugurated Kannawidan 2022 earlier this month, with a slew of events geared at
celebrating life and sharing pleasure. The commemoration of the province's
founding day is included in the schedule of activities. A mass is usually held
in St. Paul's Metropolitan Cathedral on the day of the opening. It is followed
by a parade of the Patron Saints of the 40 parishes, as well as images of Jesus
Christ and the Virgin Mary, across the city. It is the Ilocanos' way of
thanking God not just for the many blessings but also for the city's rich
legacy, which includes the Ilocanos' tight familial ties. At this celebration,
the townfolk's deep religion is on show. This year's Kannawidan also included
the crowning of the Saniata Ti Ylocos beauty contest; Chef Wars Cooking
Competition; LGBTQ Night; a dog show including American bullies; a vehicle and
motor show; Tinattoan; bike racing; game of fowl; rhythm fest; and the
much-anticipated Bakbakan sa Ilocos Sur. There were also a number of performers
and well-known personalities that came to perform. It also features a dancing
fountain performance, a drone light show, and a fireworks display at the top of
the New Legislative Building. Products from diverse sources, such as food,
furniture, and apparel, are also present. These activities are frequently
skillfully arranged by provincial officials.
Despite the COVID-19 epidemic, we celebrated this
holiday this year, however, in a simpler manner than in previous years. Fiestas
should be enjoyed because they are still helpful in reducing stress and other
ailments caused by overworking. It's been a long and difficult two years living
in seclusion, and we can't wait to enjoy life as it should be. But, as we
continue to learn how to live with the COVID-19 epidemic, I believe that this
event is a symbol that our nation is progressively opening up to allow us to
enjoy regular activities like this in the future. Overall, we should be
thankful for the chance to celebrate it.
